Hey all! Sorry I’ve been so off and on lately. There is stuff going on, and I’ll try to get more of it out here. I’ve missed you guys.
Okay, so, tying up loose ends…
You’ll remember I had a contest celebrating my one year here at My Name is Mommy. Thanks again for being here with me! Anyway, anyone submitting a comment (sans the spammers…grrrr…) from this post through the end of June was entered to win either a box of Esther Price chocolates or an Amazon gift certificate worth $15. And the winner is….
Beth of Bambootique!!!! Congratulations! I’ll contact you via e-mail so you can claim your prize!
I also said I would donate something to World Vision in honor of the one year. I was trying to purchase something that would be a reflection of all of my lovely readers out there. However, there are no cuckoo birds in the catalog. Alas.
So, you get to vote! The options:
Fruit trees, cuz we’re all a bit fruity here!
Fruit Trees (10) $60
Mangoes, oranges, and other fruits are packed with vitamins and nutrients that growing kids need. In just two or three years, such trees can also yield enough fruit for much-needed extra income, offer shade from the sweltering heat, and provide seedlings to give other families their own start in tree farming. Bless a family in a country such as El Salvador, Myanmar, or Zambia with a grove of fruit trees today!
Two Shares of a Bull. Because we’ve shared so much of it here.
Share of a Bull
$25You can help put an entire community on the path to self-sufficiency with the gift of just one bull. In drought-prone regions of Africa where crops can’t yield sustainable food or income, all it takes is a few breeding hybrid bulls to produce the livestock — and the milk, meat, and income — that can help an entire village thrive.
A pig. Cuz they make me smile. Unless I’m near a pig farm. Then they just make me wrinkle my nose. And b/c many of us have said we need to lose weight. ‘Cept for the boys. How come only skinny boys read here?
Pig
$55A pig is fat with promise and opportunity: one sow can produce 20 babies a year, and within six months a piglet can weigh 200 pounds — and fetch a hefty price at the market. Your gift of a pig can boost the income of an impoverished mother, plus provide plenty of essential protein for her growing children!
Okay, so I can’t find the correct tag to do a poll in the sidebar or anything. Must not have it here. Looks like we’ll have to go oldschool and leave your vote in the comments! If I can get Bald Man to get it working, I’ll let you know!
Now…….VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got it! Install poll…
I vote for the pig. Pigs are cute.
Got it! They are, aren’t they? Thanks, Sheila.
Definitely the BULL!!
Hsien: Why am I not surprised?
I’m voting for the bull… If you can make cows you’ve got milk, meat and leather (or a pet), so they’re pretty darned useful
Jonic: Thanks for that totally random, out-of-the-blue vote.
Our friends used to raise cows. Then, we went to visit once and they served a roast. It wasn’t until we’d started eating that they told us it was one of the cows that WE KNEW BY NAME that we were consuming at that moment. I don’t think it stopped us.
Nothing wrong with meeting the meat
J: A little creepy, though!
I too vote Bull. I think that is most like most of us.
And don’t worry. My grandfather did the same, “Do you know you’re eating Fluffy” thing to me with his bunnies. He did though let us save our favorites, for that meal at least.
Rantz: Got it! More bull coming up! Oh wait…that’s not what you said.
That was weird. At first, I thought your grandfather named his bull “Fluffy”. ha. I don’t know if I could eat rabbit. I mean, I know it’s not that different than eating chicken, but I’d maybe have to not know the first time, or something.
Right… I’m in for more fruit trees.
